För några månader sedan så fick jag höra om att Steve Aoki skulle släppa en film. Jaha, tänkte jag och la ingen vidare fundering på det. Men igår så kom jag över filmen på Netflix och kände jag var tvungen att kolla. Filmen släpptes 19 augusti 2016 och handlar om producenten, dj och entreprenören Steven Aoki, mer känd som Steve Aoki.
Jag har länge följt honom på sociala medier så som Facebook, Instagram och YouTube och vet att han är imponerande duktig på att skapa content för sina kanaler. Jag fotade honom på Trädgårn i Göteborg för några år sedan och blev väldigt imponerad över hans konsert som jag förstod han jobbat hårt med. Jag har ändå fotat över 750 st konserter de senaste åren men måste säga att hans är en av de bästa, om inte den bästa, konserten jag fotat… 3000% energi från första sekund till slutet. Wow! Imponerande!
Filmen som är en dokumentär handlar om Steve Aokis liv och hur han är där han är idag. Hur han hela tiden velat visa sin pappa de mål och saker han uppnått. Hans pappa var en hårt arbetande man och drev bland annat en stor restaurangkedja i USA och slog världsrekord i både det ena och det andra. Det gjorde att han hade stora förväntningar och krav på sina barn. När Steve startade sitt skivbolag Dim Mak tyckte pappan att han skulle skaffa sig ett jobb och göra något med sitt liv.
I filmen är det kortare intervjuer med folk i Steves närhet, både stora DJs men även andra musiker och familjemedlemmar som berättar om hur hårt han jobbar och hur mycket han kämpat. Såklart får vi även höra Steve Akois version om hur han upplever saker och ting. Jag tycker faktiskt att det var en riktigt intressant och bra dokumentär. Med några tillfällen som var rätt känsloladdade. Som i början till exempel när han har presskonferens och pratar om sin stora kommande show i Madison Square Garden som han peppat för länge och hur han blir tårögd när han tänker på att hans pappa, som gick bort för några år sedan, skulle varit stolt för det. En del i filmen när hans syster berättar om att många människor ofta tror att Steve Aoki föddes med silversked i munnen bara för att pappan hade väldigt mycket pengar och var framgångsrik är en väldigt intressant reflektion då man i filmen faktiskt får se att han inte fick särskilt mycket support från sin pappa.
Jag tycker filmen är sevärd även om man inte lyssnar på Steve Aoki eller elektronisk musik är det imponerande att se hur han åker jorden runt och har spelningar över hela världen och stänger Main stage på Tomorrowland (Europas största elektroniska festival i Belgien) tre år i rad. Nu i efterhand hade jag nästan velat att den skulle vara ännu längre eftersom jag hade velat veta mer om hans liv. Vem vet, det kanske kommer en uppföljare…
